Seniors We started the season with a game against Holme Hall which sadly we lost, but the next game against Waltham Windmill at home we won. On 21st April was the annual away day which was held at Welton Manor. The winners of the cup and a £10 voucher were Alex Marklew and Terry Robinson. Jack Coe won a bottle of whisky in the nearest the pin on the 16th April - Well done to everyone. Juniors Section Two medal competitions have been played in this period. Daniel Tollan
won the June medal with an impressive net 61 (89 - 28 = 61) - no doubt the
Handicap and Games Committee will have adjusted his handicap! The final The Juniors are now looking forward to their July competitions, especially their Open Day Competition on 30th July, which is being generously supported by Caparo Merchant Bar with guest of honour Mr Tony Jacklin in attendance to present prizes. Several other members have also provided other valuable support - a full list will be acknowledged a little later. This competition is still open for entries. Junior Open Day Tony Jacklin OBE will be presenting the prizes on the Junior Open Day, July 30th. Tony was a Junior member here before turning professional. He won the British Open Championship in 1969 and the U.S. Open Championship in 1970, holding both titles at the same time. In 1985 he won the Ryder Cup as a non-playing Captain and we are honoured to have him at our presentation. Ladies Thank you for all the help we received to make sure the Over 55s Competition on 17th April was a successful day. In particular, all the ladies at the Halfway House - Sue Barnes, Judy Bibb, Yvonne Cook, Christine Deary, Wendy Dowse, Myra Lawson, Sheila Lundy and Jean Wicks. Ashby Decoy Ladies Open Am/Am – Sunday 1 st June 2008 There were 184 ladies played in the Open Day coming from 28 different Clubs in and around Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. This very successful day, despite the showers, was crowned by a hole in one by one of Ashby Decoy ladies, Yvonne Cook. The competition was a tough stableford format with 3 to count on 18 holes. However ladies received 7/8 of their handicap. This meant the best team won. The winners on the day were a mixed team from Ashby, Chesterfield and Forest Pines – Jean Love, Viv Lister, Hilary Neale and Jenny Swain with 114 points. Viv Lister gave the winning speech complimenting the green staff for the presentation of the course and caterers for the excellent meal; adding they had very much enjoyed their day and had all played a steady game. Second place also with 114 points but lost on the back 9 – a team from Driffield – Linda Wright, Sandra Keating, Helen Lupton and Penny Holt. Third place with 113 points – a team from Holme Hall – Joyce Robinson, Kay Smith, Emilee Taylor and Joan Hammond. Fourth placewith 110 points – Margaret Fish, Margaret Jacobs, Julia Kelly from Ashby Decoy and Rosalie Heywood from Lincoln. Fifth place with 106 points – Sue Turnbull, Janet Paley, Dorothy Marshall from Carholme and Linda Fielding from Lincoln. Sixth place with 105 points – Judy Garton from Cleethorpes and Ann Walker, Wendy Green and Kim Read from Kenwick Park.
Mixed Penny and Gordon Cairns came 4th in the Grand Final of the National Match Play Championships played at the 5 star Marriott Taba Heights in Egypt. They had a lovely time while away and were very well treated. Competitions All players are reminded that to be eligible to win any club cup competition, the player must have provided three medal cards since the start of 2007. The club competitions include mixed, seniors, pairs, team and all individual cups. No one will be eligible to play in Knockout competitions without providing three medal cards. The club diaries are now available, please check the dates as some of our major competitions have been changed to avoid clashes with other clubs. Discussions have been held with Elsham and Holme Hall Golf Clubs to try and produce a balanced diary that gives members of each club a chance to play in all three clubs open competitions, invitiation days and major club competitions. Competition Cancellation Policy If less than 75% of the field has not been completed, the competition will then be declared void. If possible the competition will be re-arranged and all competitors will receive free entry for this competition. Those competitors unable to make the re-arranged date will be entitled to a full refund, excluding the cost of food included in the entry fee. If more than 75% of the field has completed the round when abandonment of play occurs, then a result should be declared from those who have completed their round. Those players who have not completed the round should be offered a complementary round of golf at the club, or reduced entry in next years' Open' Competition. Players who have not started their round will be offered a refund on the competition excluding the cost of any food included in the competition entry fee. In the case of a 36 hole Jackson Cup the result of the competition will be declared if all players have completed the first 18 holes. No refunds will be offered if the second round does not take place. The prize fund should be reduced if abandonment occurs and a result is declared. This should be reduced y the percentage of players who have not completed their round. For this to be possible it is suggested that vouchers should be given as prizes in all open competitions. Please endeavour to complete the competition. Reminders to members Please note that requests for handicap certificates should be placed in the handicap book in the lobby allowing 48 hours for the Handicap and Games Chairman to print them. The Rugby field is OUT OF BOUNDS to members! Health and safety issues regarding rugby players means the Rugby Club have decided they can no longer allow members to use this area.
