A mid-term update to members from our Captain
Hello, doesn’t time fly when things are good, and good is exactly how I would describe all aspects associated with A.D.G.C., as I reach the mid-term point of my Captaincy.
I know from the feedback from members and visitors that we all have much to be proud of and this is reflected in the number of new members, male, female and junior that have joined since my last update.
The comments I receive from new members that influenced their decision join, include, the friendly atmosphere, the condition of the course, the support from the office and pro-shop and the excellent off course facilities and catering.
May I take this opportunity to again welcome all new members both playing and social.
All Societies that have visited us have also been very complimentary. Thanks to all concerned within our Club who have made this possible, a real team effort.
My first Captains’ Away Day to Waltham Windmill was a great success. 52 members attended and my congratulations are extended to the respective winners of the 0-9 Low and High Cups, Keith Markham and Brian Kitching and to everyone who made the day so enjoyable. I now look forward with great enthusiasm to my second away day in August to Worksop G.C. The registration sheet will be available in the Pro-Shop from Monday 3rd June 2019.
The Easter AMAM, O’55’s, Motor Neurone AMAM and in-house Cup Competitions have been well subscribed and my thanks go to Eric McClellan and Stewart Johnson for managing the logistics and particular thanks to Paul Holloway for his organisation of the Motor Neurone Charity Day.
The Ladies section is thriving, their season of friendlies and Competitions is well underway and I am personally very grateful for their support and contributions to Club functions.
It is also very encouraging to witness the enthusiasm of our Juniors which augurs well for the future and my thanks go to the many parents who chaperon them when on and around the course.
19 Seniors including guests together with a contingent of 21 from Haverhill G.C. enjoyed an excellent golfing trip to Belek in Turkey. 5 Star accommodation, excellent PGA Golf Courses (5 rounds) great weather and company made for a most enjoyable venture. This is an annual event which I would wholeheartedly recommend.
The Seniors had a very enjoyable Exchange Day to Pontefract. The day was well subscribed and very well organised.
Team matches throughout the Sections are now up and running and I wish all participants every success when representing A.D.G.C.
From a personal perspective I was very proud to host the Past Captains Spring Meeting. The evening was Welsh themed and we enjoyed, from arrival to dining, pleasant music from local harpist Stephanie. Fifteen past Captains attended and a good time was had by all once we were all seated. My thanks to Tony and his staff for providing a fine dining experience.
I was also very pleased to be amongst the winners at the Sunday morning PYO competition.
On the Social front my first Captains’ Cabaret was fully subscribed and a good time was had by all as was the case with the recent Comedy evening.
Support for Social and Club events is greatly appreciated, and I would ask that you continue to take time to refer to the Calendar of events displayed around the Clubhouse and on our website.
Caroline and Diane work tirelessly to arrange Club and Social events and I really appreciate their commitment and as previously stated I cannot stress enough the need for us all to support Club functions and to promote the Club at every opportunity.
The Course upkeep and improvement continues to progress and my thanks go to President John Bacon, the Greens Staff and Club volunteers for their good works. Please assist in recovering balls after use on the practice areas, repair pitch marks, replace divots.
On June 11th and 17th our course is to be rated and I would ask that we are all cooperative as measures are taken in readiness for the inspection. This is a very important juncture in our course standing and development.
Progress continues regarding the need to provide an improved Clubhouse facility when the main room is hosting a function.
Thanks to the good works of Nigel Hollingworth we have a new coffee machine dispensing excellent beverages, and the wi-fi system is now much more efficient and robust.
Club improvements are continually considered and actioned as appropriate.
My Charities :-
LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE
CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably - prevention of youth suicide)
continue to benefit from the kind gestures and donations from members, which is a great testament to your generosity.
Now that Summer is upon us Competitions on the immediate horizon include the Ladies Open, Jackson and Anniversary Cups, Mixed Open, McMillan Open and the Lions Open. I know that you will give the above your full support.
On June 23rd I look forward to you joining me on my Captains’ Day for a day of great golf, great company and a plentiful supply of food and drink!!
Finally, as always may I encourage you to note Club emails, announcements and calendar entries detailing Club and Course information and upcoming functions for your consideration.
Thank you for your continued support.
