COURSE OPEN (Last Updated: 9/10/19 @ 10:23 AM)

An Autumn update to members from our Captain

Hello, Summer may have passed but there are still a number of Competitions and Social events to occupy our time before winter arrives.

Since my last update we have experienced excellent competitions, the Ladies Open, Jackson and Anniversary Cups, Mixed Open, Lions Day Open, Ladies 0’55 Open, Jacklin Trophy and President’s Day.
My thanks to all involved who made the days possible. Ian Bonner Snr has decided to step down from organising the Jacklin Trophy, but I am sure that someone will step up to the plate to ensure its continued success. My thanks go to Ian Snr for his excellent stewardship of this competition over the past years.

From a personal perspective I was delighted with the support received for my Captain’s weekend. The Mixed Competition attracted 40 players and 143 players took part on Captain’s Day. Sincere thanks to all who worked tirelessly to make the events possible and all who donated money and delicacies in support of my Charities. The “hole-in-one” challenge organised by Nigel Hollingworth was a great success!

My Captain’s Away Exchange Day to Worksop was very enjoyable and I am extremely grateful to Eric McClellan for his organisation skills enabling the day to run smoothly. Thanks to all participants, winners and not forgetting the deserved recipients of the Captain’s Day Gnomes, P/C Graham Sharpe and Jim Jukes.

The Club continues to receive compliments regarding the condition of the course and thanks must go to President John Bacon, the Greens Staff and volunteers for their good works.

Praise given to our Club for its excellent cuisine is also well received and we thank Tony and his staff for maintaining such high standards. The recent Heineken installation and associated “beers” has been well received and our thanks go to Nigel Hollingworth for the procurement works and to Aiden for managing the conversion, post introduction. The wi-fi provision in the Club has also been upgraded.

Thanks go to our professionals Andy and Chris for their contribution both on and off the course. Congratulations to Andy for "making the cut” recently and for allowing Colin Montgomerie to share his changing room!

Our membership continues to grow, and the Club has a number of ambitious projects being considered to ensure continued development both on and off the course. The feedback from the recent Course rating exercise has been very positive.

As you are aware the course has now reopened following the necessary closure for course work. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We will all benefit from the continuous tending and improvement measures made to the course.

The Club continues to be a preferred venue for social and general functions and is also proving attractive for wedding celebrations. The Club relies on these revenue streams in order to finance Club requirements and improvements. Aiden does a sterling job collating and reporting the numbers and keeping the finances sound.

The major in-house function was my “Summer Soiree” Casino evening, which proved to be an evening of good food, good fun around the casino tables, good entertainment and good company. My thanks go to Grimsby G.C. and Holme Hall G.C. Captains and their partners for supporting the event.

Club social events really do need the support of members and I would appreciate this being borne in mind for future events. Caroline and Diane are the mainstays regarding the organisation of Social events and a good attendance makes all of their efforts seem so worthwhile. Please give your support.

It was disappointing that our Junior Open had to be cancelled, especially as our section is thriving, however, lack of outside entrants made the competition unviable. The Ladies Section under the Captaincy of Caroline continues to enjoy a good season of competition. The Seniors Group under the Captaincy of Graham Wicks are also thriving and are now attracting members who initially thought it an embarrassment to admit their eligibility to join, especially having such a low handicap, but they were soon persuaded when they saw the prizes on offer were within their grasp. Welcome!!

Team matches at all levels of competition resulted in many a favourable result for A.D.G.C.

Our Club was well represented at the Robert Young Memorial Day held at Wheatley G.C. and although we finished second in the main competition, we did (Seniors Captain Graham Wicks) win first prize in the raffle! My thanks go to Stewart Johnson for his administration skills and we also wish him a speedy recovery from his recent injury setback.

The Millennium Cup also proved to be a great success and demonstrated yet again the excellent way that ADGC both organise and execute such events. There were circa 80 players from ADGC, Holme Hall and Elsham G.C.’s and I am pleased to report that A.D.G.C. retained the trophy. My thanks go to all home players and in particular to Life Member Mike Jacobs for collating the whole event. A good day was had by all!

However, whilst we celebrate our achievements and successes to-date we must also be mindful of those members who are suffering poor health and also to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those members who have sadly passed away.

The upcoming Captain’s Cabaret II is well-nigh upon us (Saturday September 28th) and I am eagerly anticipating a good attendance. There is a wonderful 3 course meal and entertainment is provided by the fabulous Bosom Buddies - a unique comedy cabaret duo, bringing their own style of entertainment to the sounds of Barbra Streisand, ABBA, Tina Turner, Amy Winehouse and so much more!

It would be appreciated to receive any donations for the raffle on the night, the proceeds of which will directly benefit my nominated charities. Please leave with Diane in the Office marked for my attention.

Please continue to support competitions and social events for the remainder of the year.

As this year’s term of office is slowly drawing to a close may I take this opportunity to thank you once again for your cooperation and encouragement. Ashby Decoy Golf Club is a Club with a great heritage and tradition. I am privileged and proud to be your Captain and to represent the Club both at home and away venues. I can assure you that our Club is held in high esteem by many.  This valued opinion is testament to the hard and unselfish work of the Management, Golf, Greens and H&G Committees.

I look forward to hosting my Past Captains Autumn meeting on October 15th and I am sure the Europe themed menu will delight the palate!

Please take note of Club emails, social functions announcements, competition entry deadlines and calendar entries detailing Club and course information.

Best regards
