An update to members from our Captain
Hello, and I trust that many of you have been taking advantage of the excellent weather of late to hone your skills both on and off the course.
As we near springtime the first of the Club and Open competitions will soon be upon us (Smith Cup / Easter AMAM / and Motor Neurone AMAM) and I would respectfully remind all to register early in order to avoid disappointment.
My thanks to Eric McClellan for managing competition entries.
Support for Social and Club events would also be greatly appreciated, and I would ask that you take the time to refer to the Calendar of events displayed around the Clubhouse and on the website.
I am really looking forward to my first Captain’s Cabaret on Saturday 30th March, an evening of entertainment and fine dining. There is also a Comedy night on Saturday 27th April along with a pie and pea supper.
Caroline and Diane work tirelessly to arrange Club and Social events and I really appreciate their commitment and as previously mentioned I cannot stress enough the need for us all to support functions.
The bi-weekly Thursday Quiz night hosted by Keith Moody continues to be very popular and well attended.
Those members who have played our course over the winter months will I am sure appreciate its' excellent condition and will have noted the course improvements and aesthetic enhancements that have taken place. This is a continuing exercise and my thanks go to John Bacon, the Greens Staff and Club volunteers for their good works. Please assist in recovering practice balls after use on all areas, repair pitch marks, replace divots and observing instruction regarding use of buggies or trolleys.
Those playing members who have not as yet fully digested the new “Rules of Golf” can view the rolling video tape displayed via the TV in the Clubhouse at their leisure. There is also an update of “Local Rules” available. My thanks go to Stewart Johnson for his good works and diligence in providing the update.
The playing turnout for all sections and groups within the Club has been excellent and I am sure that this will gather further momentum as the year progresses.
Our membership continues to grow, which in itself a great complement to all concerned with the management and running of our Club, and it is pleasing to hear very positive feedback from new members and visitors, and we must continue to promote ADGC positively and at every opportunity.
May I take this opportunity to welcome those new members, both playing and social.
There is recognition of the urgent need to provide an improved facility for members in the Club, particularly when there is a function occupying the main room. Please be assured that a solution for this issue is being actively pursued.
Charities during my year of office are:
LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE
CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably - prevention of youth suicide)
On a very positive note I am pleased to say that the first of my Captains’ Away Days (Waltham Windmill) is fully subscribed. Thank you to all concerned, and I am pleased to report that I have recently managed to register successes in the Captain / Pro Challenge matches. It is a privilege to play alongside the Club professional and against very good Club golfers.
Finally, may I encourage you to note Club emails, announcements and calendar entries detailing Club and Course information and upcoming functions for your consideration.
Doug (Dougie) Chapman - Captain ADGC 2019
